Teaching coding to middle schoolers can be daunting. New York Edge and IS 190x, the objective was to introduce 6th and 7th graders to coding in a way that was engaging and intuitive. How could ScholarStem ensure that students, many of whom had never written code, would not only grasp the concepts but also harness the micro:bit's functionalities fully?
The culmination of the program at IS 190x was evident in the array of innovative projects crafted by the students. From electronic candles that illuminated their understanding of sensors to RF-based games that showcased their grasp on wireless communication, their achievements were tangible. The pride in a 6th grader's eyes as they showcased a step counter or a 7th grader's excitement while sending messages between micro:bits was a testament to the program's success. ScholarStem's initiative not only imparted coding skills but also instilled confidence, creativity, and a drive for technological exploration in each student.
Using the capacitive touch sensor on the Micro:bit, students coded different beats that would play live on the board itself. Portable DJ unit made from scratch!
